When using a mobile phone, swiping to the left on the home screen typically leads to a new page known as the shelf. However, numerous companies tend to overload this small shelf with an excessive number of widgets and applications, causing it to appear similar across different devices.

Unfortunately, in previous versions (Ver.11), we received numerous negative feedback from users regarding the shelf.

Concept Map

Following the rapid design phase, I led design, tech, data and product stakeholders through “Sprint Zero”, a series of design thinking workshops that allowed us to collaboratively align on the goal of the project, map the primary user journey, sketch innovative ideas and prioritize features of the new experience.

Basic features: Customers expect these features and take them for granted.
Performance features: Give a proportionate increase in customer satisfaction.
Excitement features: Yield a disproportionate increase in customer delight. If the product don’t have these features, customers might aware

Usability testing

We gave the low-fidelity card model to users for usability testing, focus on two main areas.

1. Whether the user could understand how to change the size of the card
2. Whether the user can understand the meaning of the card

New Shelf, New self

Users can customize the content and layout of the cards according to their needs and shorten the path to view such information.

The drop-down position is simple to trigger and has high usage rate, which is one of the best paths to improve efficiency and form user memory points and operational dependency

The combination of local search and quick access tools helps to improve efficiency and form user path dependency, forming an experience barrier, and at the same time serves as an infrastructure for the distribution of high-quality content, increasing user reach and touch points

New Scout for local apps, local app content, settings etc., shortens the path for users to find local content and improves usage efficiency.

Solve the problem that users can't find local content, shorten the path for users to find local content, improve the efficiency of users' use.

Information Card

If the user authorises, we can read specific messages or emails to automatically help the user with travel or delivery issues
Alternatively, emails can be sent to shelf and can be generated automatically (Mainland China version only)

New useful features, countdown day, player, digital health...all the highlights at a glance!

You can also freely combine different card layouts and set background images to create your own Shelf

We also provide a lot of different widgets for users to choose
